Members of Company 1 (Mt. Penn), 7 (Birdsboro), & 25 (Exeter Twp) participated in a live fire drill at Berks County Fire Training Site. Members practiced hose management, fire attack and search & rescue techniques. We would like to thank Union Twp Supervisor Nelson Ott for participating in this drill. Supervisor Ott was able to get a better understanding our job functions as he experienced it first hand.

Saturday, 16 May 2009, 1809 hrs
Company 7 and 25 (Exeter Twp) were dispatched to the Rustic Park in the Boro to assist the police and EMS with the removal of an unconscious male that was in a vacant house across the Haycreek Creek. Crews set up safety lines across the creek and safely removed the patient.

Tonight Junior Firefighter Tyler Neiswender received a Certification of Recognition for Outstanding School Service from the Daniel Boone School District. Junior FF Neiswender received the recognition for his dedication to the fire service. Congratulation Tyler!

Monday 04 May 2009 – 1953 hrs
Tower 7 was dispatched along with companies 6 (Monarch) and 49 (Amity) for a reported structure fire. First arriving units reported heavy fire showing from a second floor apartment. Tower 7 arrived and was instructed to complete truck company operations. Crews laddered the building, completed vertical ventilation and assisted with overhaul. Crews were released at 2121 hours.

Sunday, 05 April 2009 - 0028 Hrs
Members of Birdsboro Fire Company along with Company 36 (Kulptown) and Medic 680 (Southern Berks EMS) were dispatached to Hopewell Street for a reported Motorcylce Accident with injuries. Members arrived to find a single motorcycle accident with one motorcyclist who was killed in the accident. Crews remained on location until 0245 while the PA State Police investigated the accident.

Monday, 30 March 2009
As part of the company's weekly training, crews trained on specific hydrant operations. Crews reviewed general hydrant components, use and operation of the Humat Valve, and hooking up secondary supply lines.

Sunday, 22 March 2009 – 2302 hrs
Companies 36 (Kulptown), 6 (Monarch) and 7 (Birdsboro) were dispatched to a possible structure fire on East Main St in Union Twp. Chief 7 (S. Kulp) arrived to find a heavy smoke condition throughout the structure from a chimney fire. Crews investigated and located a clogged chimney. Crews cleared the chimney and ventilated the structure.

Thursday, February 26, 2009 – 1414 hrs
Rescue 7 was dispatched to 1700 block of Friedensburg Road as a RIT team for a working house fire. Crews were deployed at the scene to assist with overhaul of the basement area.

Wednesday, February 25, 2009 – 2352 hrs
Company 7 was dispatched with Company 25 (Exeter Twp) for a reported building fire. Chief 7 (S. Kulp) arrived to find a 1 story commercial structure with heavy smoke showing. Engine 7 was first apparatus to arrive. The crew laid a 5” supply line and deployed attack lines into the fire building. Crews remained on scene for approximately two and half hours completing salvage and overhaul. One worker was transported to a local hospital with minor burns.

Friday, February 20, 2009 – 0547 hrs
Company 7, along with Companies 36 (Kulptown) and 24 (Geigertown) were dispatched to Route 345 in the French Creek State Park for a vehicle accident with unknown injuries. Upon response of Chief 7 (S. Kulp) Berks County Communication advised that there were injuries and possible entrapment. Shortly after, Chief 24 (P. Shirey) arrived on scene and reported heavy entrapment. Crews arrived and began stabilizing the vehicle and extrication evolutions. After a period of time, it was determined that additional personnel were needed due to the heavy entrapment. Command then requested Company 6 (Monarch) to assist. After an extremely lengthy extrication time, the patient was removed from the vehicle and transported to Reading Hospital Trauma Center by Southern Berks EMS and MidAtlantic MedEvac 3. Good work to everyone involved!
