End of an Era

Friday, April 9, 2010 - After serving the Borough of Birdsboro and the southern Berks County Community for over 8 years, our 1980 Mack Rescue has been retired from service. Rescue 7 was purchased in 2002 from the Ogontz Fire Co., Montgomery County PA, and the design and layout of was considered to be ahead of the time. During its 8 years, Rescue 7 responded to countless vehicle rescues, water rescues, and structure fires. On Monday, April 12th, we will turn the Rescue over to its new owner, the Humber Institute of Technology & Advanced Learning in Toronto, Canada. It will be utilized in Fire & Emergency Services Training. The new Rescue 7 (1994 Pierce Rescue Engine) is expected to be in service by May 1st.

New Rescue 7 Coming Soon

Late in 2009, the Members of the Birdsboro Union Fire Department
approved the purchase of the 1994 Pierce Rescue Engine from the
Penndel Fire Company in
Bucks County PA.  This vehicle will replace the 1980 Mack, and possibly the 1992 E-One (Engine 7-1).  For the last two years, the Department has been searching for the "perfect" replacement.  Several used rescue engines were looked at, but each one was missing a key component.  The 1994 Pierce Rescue Engine gives us everything we need, and then some.  The next few weeks will be extremely busy for the Members.  The 1980 Mack Rescue will be sold to Humber Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning in Toronto, Canada.
